Oscar de la renta’s spring 2012 fashion show was a highlight of ny fashion week. His homes are as impressive. one of my favorite homes is his colonnaded house at punta cana in the dominican republic. a perfect combination of high classicism and native traditions.

the colonial style home designed by archtect ernesto buch has been an inspiration for me throughout the years. Ivory linen slip-covered furniture, rattan seating and salvador gonzalez designed mahogany pieces anchor the house. blue and white porcelain, dendrobium orchids, coral, masses of books , pratesi bed linens and hurricanes create the warmth. gorgeous chinoiserie,  indian bone-inlaid , british colonial and ebony penwork antiques collected through the years provide the accents. every detail perfect and precise.

the beauty of the home is not only the gorgeous furniture pieces and accents, but also the open air floorplan. bright yellow, green, pink and turquoise bedrooms reflect the caribbean aesthetic. elegant and refined, as well as, casual and comfotrable. a perfect combination.

im busy planning my trip early next year to punta cana. cant wait to visit the birth place of a style icon and my inspiration.

  3. Mr. Sikes,

it was a wonderful pleasure to “stumble” upon your great website! I. too, am a huge fan of Mr. de la Renta’s style. I clipped an article featuring his Punta Cana residence years ago (1988, I believe from american Vogue) and Have used it as a visual reference and inspiration.

i am Grateful for you in publishing it on your website, as It has been most troublesome to find any other articles relating to his magnificent home.

May i suggest a web search on india hicks and david flint wood? She’s the stunningly beautiful cousin to the royal family with a lovely home in the bahamas. It reminds me of mr. de la renta’s colonial home. A stylish couple indeed.

I shall continue to visit your website often… and i especially look forward to hearing about your visit to punta cana.
