THE HOUSE OF WINDSOR

michael and i went to visit the “house of windsor”, first ever veranda magazine concept house, in brentwood, a few months ago. “lifestyle architect” windsor smith and nine other designers set out to define luxury for the modern family.

like any concept/ showhouse there are things and rooms you love and other things that dont appeal as much. the house and concept was absolutley gorgeous. the grounds, details, floorplan was to die for. one of the prettiest houses i’ve ever been in.

the entry hall, great room and kitchen were the standouts. the extra wide entry hall designed by windsor smith to accomodate thirty for dinner on a special occasion like thanksgiving is what we will all need in a few weeks. gorgeous moldings, mirrored walls, exquisite furnishings and marble floors. the best detail was the line of sight from the front of the house to the back. very elegant! very chic!

the kitchen, also designed by windsor, was a very unique and current concept to meet the needs of the modern family. the large grey and marble” living” area with a large multi- functional island and computer area overlooking the back yard was to die for. this design gave a whole new meaning to the concept of the kitchen being the center of the house. add is a daybed and there wouldn’t be any need to leave!

the great room, by richard shapiro, took my breath away. the large white expansive space with the most beautiful moldings, paneling and chevron oak floors had two seating areas divided by a skirted console table with stacks and stacks of books. one of my favorite things! the configuration employs symmetry to a stunning effect, grounding the room. all that was needed were perfectly appointed furnishings and edgy contemporary art. very grand, very elegant, very chic!

the only thing missing was a pool! however, with an entry way that can double for a dining room, a kitchen that can double for a living room and a great room that is just that “great”, who needs a pool. oh, don’t forget a magnificent horse stable.

what they accomplished at this property brings together quality, style and functionlity in a home as beautiful to inhabit as it is to behold. well done, i’m ready to move in!
