MASTER RETREATS

master bedrooms need to be master retreats- a much needed place to renew, recharge, rest and restore. comfortable and cozy is a must, sexy and special is the key!

there are two types of master bedrooms that i like- dark, dramatic and moody or light, ethereal and calm. i love a dark master bedroom with chocolate walls or a deep robin’s egg chinoiserie wall paper. asian antiques add to the mystic, as well as, animal prints, paisleys and velvets. very sophisticated, very sexy, very chic! i also love a light and airy master bedroom with lots of whites, pale grey’s and ivories. pretty muted prints, linen textures and silks, along with, painted finishes, gilt and parchment finishes enhance the dreamy mood. very elegant, very peaceful, very chic!

which ever the mood, my favorite thing for a master bedroom is a canopy bed- they add so much drama and make a room feel so special. it can make every night feel like a vacation. i also love lots of mirrors, they make the space feel large and their reflection provides beautiful light, atmosphere and mood.

some type of seating is must-a settee, a slipper chair or a chaise. additional extras like a writing table, bedside tables, and a chest of drawers help with storage and function. gorgeous linens are a given, d. porthault from paris or frette are the best. last but not least, perfect lighting is mandatory- definitely helps with the sexy and the special!

whatever your style, whatever your mood, whatever your need- make your retreat yours- but make sure it’s sexy, special, and very chic!

  1. Great picks, Mark! You’ve selected many of my own personal favorites. The photo marked “Unknown” is a vicente Woolf designed bedroom. Wonderful post, and thank you!
