COUNTRY LIFE

darryl carter does it again- this time it is a country home in pennsylvania, photographed for elle decor by simon upton. darryl’s vision of white, our delight- my kind of country life!

the 4000 square foot home, built in the 1940’s, embodies both modernity and tradition- just like darryl! what i like most about the house is that it is a place airily washed in white and unfussy, also the owner says, “it’s a place where good things happen!”

carter worked to honor the houses good bones but of course added his signature elements- 19th century antiques, eclectic art, reclaimed wood accents, wing chairs, swing arm lamps with black shades, lots of books and everything perfectly and artfully arranged- another darryl triumph! see some previous ones here, here and here- as you can see i’m a fan!

i’m also a fan of white, as well as, casual, comfortable and chic interiors- that’s why i’m a fan of darryl’s! now i’m a fan of country life!

let good things happen! enjoy!

  3. I had been reading Carter’s book, “the New Traditional,” when i stumbled upon a late semi circular half round writing desk. As I mentioned, I’m going through a big life change, that includes selling my beloved home. I feel like going in a new direction, as I’ll be living more simply. I think I’m ready to release the color and pattern that has defined my home, and that I work with so often each day. I’m ready for a respite, to come home to calm, quiet, simple, classic whites, and allow the furnishings to be the sculpture, the “pattern” of the rooms. So, though I really shouldn’t have–I mean, I’ve not yet even found my new place–I purchased the desk at auction and felt guilty allllll day long. I came home, picked up the mail, and Elle Decor was the first thing I pulled from my mail box, and on the cover that gorgeous mid 20th Century half round desk. It has to be a sign! Thank you again for your wonderful post, Mark. We may not know one another, but your find blog gives me a nice lift, each and everyday.
