last weekend i had the joy, the honor, the sheer delight to meet designer hutton wilkinson and his dear wife ruth at their new home in beverly hills. words that come to mind- glamorous, opulent, extravagant, according to him minimal! to me, a lesson in more is more!
what an experience- first a tour of hutton’s late business partner, the eccentric fantasy maker tony duquette’s, famous dawnridge home. words can’t even explain, almost too much to take in, the gardens, the stories, the color, the pattern, the details like i’ve never seen- what a moment! a moment of more is more!
next on the tour, right next door, hutton and ruth’s new home photographed earlier this year by christopher sturman for harper’s bazaar. where do i start? well we started in the 20 foot living room that literally overlooks the gardens of dawnridge- yes, right next door! coral red walls, animal print rugs and pillows, 17th-century venetian oil paintings, louis xv chairs- i could go on and on!
my favorite rooms were the master bedroom and ruth’s dressing room- chinoiserie wall paper, silk bed hangings, blues with greens, greens with blues- gorgeous! last not but least, there was a black crocodile hermes leather on the walls of hutton’s bathroom- he says minimal, i say more is more!
it’s not possible to fully describe the experience, if you want more read here and for even more make sure to watch the video of hutton talking about his design inspiration and his late business partner, the great tony duquette. i can’t wait to visit again, i want more!
