a few days ago i mentioned that when i think of the perfect Manhattan residence i think about a modern apartment with lots of windows, high ceilings, a monochromatic grey color scheme with long sofas and glass tables. i didn’t realize it at the time, however, halston’s iconic manhattan townhouse would do!
i have been planning for quite sometime to do a post on halston- one of my favorite fashion designers of all-time- the god of classic, clean, minimal, simple and sexy all-american sportswear! the timing is perfect because I’m in ny this week and no one exemplifies nyc style more than halston!
no american designer has had such an impact on re-defining fashion- his minimal designs, his use of luxurious materials like cashmere, ultrasuede and fur, his modern interpretation of classics, his posse of models called the halstonettes, his close circle of friends including grace kelly, liz taylor, jackie, liza minnelli, bianca jagger, lauren hutton, nan kempner.
his style has been beyond influential! take a look- everything he did is timeless! nothing would look out of place today- nothing! his homes, his fashions, his personal style, his marketing genius, the sexual undertones, the celebrity hype, the glamour! chic then, chicer now!
if you haven’t, you must see the documentary ultrasuede- in search of halston. the movie paints a much better picture of this legend than i ever could, however, in the meantime enjoy a little taste of the american original.
most photographs form the book halston- the american original.
