A COMMON THREAD

besides all being some of my favorite interior designers, what do bunny williams, miles redd, jeffrey bilhuber, todd alexander romano, michael s. smith, and fellow blogger nick olsen have in common? they all love ikat- ikat pillows, ikat throws, ikat fabrics!

sunday i did a post on one of my favorite books- ikat- splendid silks of central asia. ikat is a dying technique that employs a resist dying process similar to tie-dye, however, the main difference is that with ikat the dying of threads by means of bindings is done before cloth construction versus after.

ikat can add so much to a room- instant color, instant pattern, instant texture, instant chic! if you want instant ikats, madeline weinrib and robert kime in london are my favorites.

what do i have in common with all my favorite designers? i love ikat too! ikat- more than chic, it’s a common thread!
