a few weeks ago i did a post on artist cy twombly’s apartment in rome photographed by the great horst p. horst. at the time i couldn’t imagine a more perfect interior, and it may still be, however, there are many more horst interiors that might be in the running.
the last week or so i’ve been focusing on fashion because of the spring 2013 fashion shows- i thought it was about time for some interiors! how about timeless, classic and enduring interiors- why not show the best!
horst was primarily a fashion photographer until the 60′s when he was brought into shoot interiors for vogue magazine by diana vreeland. it was her idea to start photographing socialites and celebrities in their homes and horst was the best to do it!
if horst had achieved drama in his fashion photography by using high-contrast lighting, he achieved it in his interiors by focusing on details, juxtapositions and layering of textures and color into rich, sensual, painterly compositions. quintessential horst- simply, the best!
as i dove deeper into horst’s interior photography i came to realize he had photographed some of my favorite rooms and favorite homes. what i also came to realize was he photographed some of my favorite peoples homes- the chic, the glamorous and the stylish! oscar de la ranta, marella agnelli, valentino, lee radziwill and gloria guinness to name a few!
don’t you want to see how all these fabulous people lived? well here it is – the best of photographers and the best of interiors come together in horst interiors- the best of the best!
all photographs by horst from the book horst: interiors.

Great post!
Last picture Is of Pauline. She was a true original.
I love those! Lee Radziwill is one of my favorites, I remember a room with a phhoto of her and her child it was a stunning use of moroccan inspired fabric everywhere! REally gorgeous images!
Have a great Week-Karolyn
