all of you pretty much know how much i love magazines, i have a 20 year collection of about every major fashion and home publications, and you know i love books- hence, sunday book club! i can’t think of anything better than a book celebrating the 40 year anniversary of one of favorite magazines- w magazine- the who, what, when, where, and why in the world of fashion.
over the years i have loved w magazine for many reasons. first and most obvious, the size. much larger than other magazines- the size has always seemed chic to me! then you have the content- every issue being about the finer things and fine living, what’s in and out, the best and the latest- all about work and fun!
i guess what hits most home is the magazines focus on people, places and things- common ground. iconic portraits of socialites, artists, taste-makers, and movie stars. where they live, how they live, what they are wearing, their gardens, their parties, their divorces and their affairs.
however, i think what separates w from all others is the avant- garde nature of the magazine. always pushing boundaries and innovation by allowing photographers and stylists to explore personal visions and obsessions. everyone, every place and everything has always remained irreverent, unconventional and always ahead of the curve- bravo to all of that!
i can’t think of a better way to celebrate the last 4o years of w than by showcasing my favorite images of chic people, glamorous places and stylish things from the new book- w: the first 40 years.
who, where, and wow! i have always loved the wow! w magazine- 40 and fabulous! bravo!
