i haven’t done a “my favorite women” post in a while… i was finding i needed a break from all the fashion and interiors for a moment…felt like a perfect time to talk about lauren bacall. actually, i’m surprised i haven’t featured her and her style already- i mean it really doesn’t get any more chic, glamorous or stylish than her.
i’m sure everyone knows all about lauren- started modeling for harpers bazaar, was discovered by slim keith, another style icon. slim at the time was married to howard hawks the famous director. he directed her in her first movie co-starring humphrey bogart– they fell in love, married, and so the story goes…
all these pictures speak for themselves, some modeling shots, some studio shots, however, all of them show lauren’s personal style. her taste was and still in empeccable, full of restraint, so elegant, sporty, sophisticated, and chic. i don’t know if everyone gets it, but it’s really good. i can only imagine she has to be a great source of inspiration for the row collections, or even céline… or another favorite, christophe lemaire.
and the best thing about lauren is she has been an example of how women should grow older gracefully… she hasn’t prescribed to the hollywood standard. one of her famous quotes is, “your whole life shows in your face and you should be proud of that.” there you have it, lauren bacall- style that lives!
