THE SWAN

several months ago i was telling my friend sarah bartholomew about this idea i had to design a women’s clothing collection, like a good friend she encouraged me with great excitement, so much excitement that she then asked me if i would design her gown for the 2014 swan ball that took place this past weekend in nashville, tennessee. without much thought, i said yes and that is where this story begins…..

after it actually sunk in on what i signed up for i got to work….audrey hepburn wearing givenchy in the 50′s and lee radziwill and jackie kennedy wearing halston in the 70′s provided the inspiration, and since it was the swan ball, ivory was the color choice. i loved the idea of a dress with pockets and a opera coat with a flipped up collar and a train, then there was the stunning jewelry by fruzsina keehn.

sarah and i have what we call “transmission de pensee,” which means like minds. we pretty much love and find inspiration in the same things, it’s eerie, but what i find so special is that we find inspiration in each other.

i’m inspired by her elegance, her refinement, her smile, her innate style, her impeccable taste (she is going to kill me for saying all of this) and mostly by her kindness and big heart, she’s so beautiful inside and that is what truly inspires. i think she’s inspired by the fact that i’ll pretty much try anything and put everything i have into it…

…to make a long story short because i could go on and on, there were so many beautiful women and dresses at the swan ball, but there was only one swan, and for now that’s the end of this story…

special thanks to laura and shelby, they are the heart of the story. also, to the 2014 swan ball chairs, peggy kinnard and betsy wilt who made this spectacular event that benefits cheekwood possible and to gavin duke who made it unbelievably beautiful.
