From Mark's Desk
It's been a couple of weeks since the Ann and Gordon Getty collection was sold through Christie's in ten auctions benefitting their foundation for arts and science organizations. After watching like a hawk, I was lucky enough to acquire some pieces from this historic sale and I've been dreaming of their storied residence since. The Getty's opulent decor recalls some of the grander pieces in Hubert de Givenchy's Hôtel d'Orrouer sold in another recent Christie's auction. Something must be in the air because I've been transfixed by the elegant, refined interiors of these icons of design.
On my desk right now is a scheme inspired by a private residence in Rome that appears in Carlos Mota's new book, G: Forever Green. It calls to mind another favorite room by Mark Hampton in the San Francisco apartment of Denise Hale, covered in emerald velvet. We are unbelievably lucky to have shots of our Birmingham, Alabama project alongside such beautiful work in Carlos' book that is so full of inspiration. I'm loving the deep, rich greens in the form of silk, brocade, and velvet. Throw in some blue and white porcelain with these sumptuous greens as a backdrop and I'm sold!
