Old Hollywood Romance

February arrives cloaked in romance - Valentine's Day casting its rosy glow over winter's final act. It's a season of small gestures, shared moments, and shades of red that fill the landscape with life. In California, camellias bloom early, mist drapes the landscape like a stage curtain, and the air hums with Old Hollywood nostalgia. It is only fitting that this Beverly Hills guesthouse, Falcon Lodge, infused with Mediterranean and bohemian sensibilities, has a past worthy of a screenplay. Once the stable of a silent film legend and his prized Arabian stallions, the 1925 structure held the bones of a Spanish Colonial dream - clay roofs, intricate wrought ironwork, and an effortless flow between indoors and out. But even the most storied spaces need a revival.

Honoring its history, we deepened the Spanish Colonial soul of the home. A coffered ceiling now mirrors the weight of its century-old mahogany doors, hand-painted beams add patina, and custom wrought iron lanterns flicker like candlelight. Bougainvillea climbs trellises, casting shadows that dance in the afternoon sun. A thread of carmine red ties it all together - bold awnings, piped cushions, and thoughtful details that leave a lasting impression.

It’s the kind of place Jane Birkin might have escaped to—bohemian, effortless, and steeped in quiet intrigue. Her carefree spirit, a mesmerizing blend of undone glamour and wanderlust, was our muse. Like her legendary love affair with Serge Gainsbourg, Falcon Lodge tells a story of passion, artistry, and the allure of the unexpected.

The result feels less like a guesthouse and more like a creative retreat - a space alive with inspiration. Perfectly suited for this month of love, it offers a place to reflect, celebrate, and be inspired. Step inside, and you can feel it - that undeniable magic only Old Hollywood knew how to conjure.

MDS FOR SCHUMACHER

Departing from convention, we set out to design fabrics that defy stereotypes, focusing on grounding solids, rich textures, small scale prints, and a timeless color palette that forms the cornerstone of every project. Additionally, we wanted to create wallpaper panels that effortlessly work back to our existing fabrics with Schumacher.

MDS FOR TROY LIGHTING

In our debut collection for Troy Lighting, we distill the essence of California living into The Beautiful Outdoors. From the lush hills of Napa to the palm-lined streets of Santa Barbara, California perfectly illustrates the disparate terrain and identities within the American landscape.
