On the Water
Spring in Florida may not bring drastic seasonal changes, but the light tells a different story. By March, the days stretch longer, and the sun sits higher, casting cinematic shadows and bathing everything in a golden glow. There’s an understated romance to the way this home interacts with light—one that evokes the moody elegance of Indochine. Imagine Catherine Deneuve in a crisp blue shirt, a perfectly tilted fedora, and sun-faded khakis, moving through a world of dappled shadows and timeworn splendor. This delicate balance of colonial nostalgia and tropical modernity weaves through the design, where classic forms meet the unexpected, and history lingers in the air like a whispered story.
This month's featured project—a Boca Raton home inspired by Bahamian and Cape Dutch architecture—embodies that same interplay of light and atmosphere. With its stately clock gables, flickering copper gas sconces, and blue louvered shutters, the home exudes coastal elegance. Inside, rich mahogany doors and transom windows welcome soft daylight, while pecky cypress ceilings and inlaid stone floors add depth and warmth. The homeowners’ remarkable modern art collection brings a dynamic contrast to the breezy, Bahamian-inspired furnishings—bone-inlay pieces, shellcraft accents, and natural textures like cane, wicker, and jute.
Our decorative painter, Joseph Steiert, infused artistry into every detail. A deep-hued powder room comes to life with hand-painted chinoiserie, transforming the space into a hidden garden. In the living room, his custom landscape paintings weave together the home’s entire color palette.
Spending the past month in Florida has been a reminder of how light shapes design—and how thoughtful details create a lasting impression. It’s these small, intentional touches that make a house truly unforgettable.
We are excited to share this special project with you, along with eleven other homes featured in Forever Beautiful. To explore the full collection, be sure to pick up a copy here!
