From Mark's Desk
Nancy Lancaster's drawing room, designed in collaboration with John Fowler, stands as a timeless masterpiece that has left an enduring impact on me. This room has captivated me for years, and I have often wondered what elements make this room so extraordinarily special. Is it the harmonious furniture arrangement? The soaring high ceilings? Or perhaps it is the vibrant yellow walls and upholstery that truly set it apart. Yellow, after all, is such an inviting color, and I firmly believe that every house should have a yellow room.
On my desk right now is a vibrant array of yellow hues, centered around Namay Samay's beautiful "Mor" and "Lerio" in Marigold. These bright, cheerful hues are complemented by a harmonious mix of textures and patterns. As summer begins, this lively color palette and these captivating images are sparking my creativity and inspiration.
Yellow is synonymous with sunshine, exuding brightness, warmth, and happiness. I often say "follow the light," a phrase that carries a profound message. Thanks to the power of yellow, we can bring the brilliance of sunshine into our lives, filling any space with cheer and light every single day.
BEAUTIFUL THINGS
MDS RATTAN
In collaboration with Soane Britain, our Lily Collection was created to bring rattan back indoors! The pieces include an armchair whose eye-catching base brings to mind a rippled fabric, a drum table, and a slipper chair in the manner of American style icon Billy Baldwin. Plus, the floral fabrics are blooming with beauty.
MDS FOR SCHUMACHER
Departing from convention, we set out to design fabrics that defy stereotypes, focusing on grounding solids, rich textures, small scale prints, and a timeless color palette that forms the cornerstone of every project. Additionally, we wanted to create wallpaper panels that effortlessly work back to our existing fabrics with Schumacher.
MDS FOR HUDSON VALLEY LIGHTING
Drawing immense inspiration from my travels in the English countryside, as well as featuring MDS signatures throughout, this collection continues to highlight traditional design and the story of color with an emphasis on brass details. The architectural elements and bespoke design lend a timeless quality to each style.
