Volume IV - Napa Barn
Continuing our celebration of fifteen years of rooms we love, we are revisiting a space that captures a sense of joy, color, and effortless entertaining: the Napa Barn, designed as both a party room and office for a home in Napa Valley, California. With custom wicker sofas by Bonacina and hanging lanterns by Urban Electric, every detail was considered to make the barn comfortable, functional, and beautiful.
The inspiration for this space begins with Gloria Guinness and her villa in Mexico, a place defined by its bold use of color, its relaxed glamour, and its seamless connection to the outdoors. Surrounded by palm trees and sun-washed terraces, her interiors embraced a fearless mix of pattern and palette, always grounded by a strong point of view.
Gloria, whose style remains a touchstone for living beautifully and entertaining with ease, understood how to create rooms that felt layered and expressive, yet entirely inviting. That spirit guided every decision in this barn.
Inside, the palette is unapologetically blue and yellow, bright and optimistic, with a rhythm created through windowpane fabrics, stripes, and checks used again and again. The repetition is intentional. It builds harmony and allows the room to feel layered rather than chaotic.
One of the most important aspects of the barn is how it is used. Though it functions as an office, it was always intended as a place to gather. It is, at its heart, a party space, designed for long afternoons that turn into evenings, where work gives way to entertaining and the room comes fully to life.
