From Mark's Desk
Each year I try to challenge myself to learn or try something new. This year it’s been Horse Riding. I’ve been taking lessons since March and I love it. I’m learning to ride English but I’m on a Western saddle, all very confusing, but I’m just doing what I’m told and enjoying the mornings with “Montana”, the horse I ride. When you take on something new like this it can’t help but change your mood, enhance your perspective and of course inspire or influence my work and our interiors. I’m dreaming of horse farms filled with English antiques layered with chintzes and checks. Right now on “Mark's Desk” is just that, a beautiful Brunschwig and Fils chintz in pink, red and blue along with some batiks and my new favorite window pane checked fabrics. I’m seeing all of this with mint green and robins egg blue. The irony is the palette also feels like summer, there’s nothing more beautiful than a red, white and blue summer, even better when it’s filled with horses, endless girls, white fences and big dreams.
BEAUTIFUL THINGS
TEXAS PROJECT
An old college friend reached out for me to decorate her home in Waco, Texas, and boy, did we have a blast! Her one requirement was that I incorporate her many family antiques and heirlooms, which I was more than happy to do. I love that they have so many family heirlooms they live with. It's a wonderful example of surrounding yourself with what you love and how that truly creates happiness and real beauty. This home is a treasure to me because of the family that lives in it.
