From Mark's Desk

As we head into the holiday season, I find myself going back to basics. In the introductory chapter of my second book, More Beautiful, I highlight spaces with rich, neutral color palettes. These are the sort of rooms that can serve as the perfect canvas for creativity and ideas to bloom. When life gets complicated, we need environments that provide the perfect opportunity to hit refresh. Right now on “Mark’s Desk” is the color and fabric scheme from the living room I did at the 2016 Southern Living Idea House in Birmingham, Alabama. I was honored to be chosen to decorate this large room and was inspired to create a neutral palette that looks as good today as it would have 30 years ago. Designing rooms with such neutral tones gives me carte blanche to bring in plenty of texture in the form of wallpaper, layered rugs, and the finishes of the furniture. Oftentimes, the most beautiful rooms are the product of subtle details, simplicity, and restraint.

CHADDOCK

We recently launched our second collection of furniture with Chaddock entitled "City, Coastal, Country." Drawing inspiration from each of these three environments, we have created timeless furniture you can customize, curate, and collect.

MDS FOR SCHUMACHER

The Mark D Sikes for Schumacher line of luxurious fabrics consists of modern takes on my go-to favorites including a pretty chinoiserie floral, a smart ikat, a playful paisley medallion, and, of course, stripes. Proving the power of pattern, each piece is designed to mix and match in fresh color groupings including blues and whites, neutrals, and reds.

MORE CLASSICS

More Classics, my new lighting collection, is a continuation of the first collection with Hudson Valley Lighting. It features recurring themes like painted shades and spherical forms infused with a British sensibility for a captivating second act.

@tonykitzgallery

Tony Kitz Gallery is one of my favorite places to source antique carpets for our projects in the Bay Area and around the country. In the case of the living room for the Southern Living Idea House that I decorated, I layered two beautifully faded Oushak rugs under each seating area.
